BMW has created its genre-busting X6 'Sports Activity Coupe' exactly when anti-SUV feeling is at a high point. It's highly unlikely that the sleek four-seater is going to slip under the radar of the green-lobby, but at least BMW has fitted all variants with its clever emissions and consumption improving EfficientDynamics technology.
Clever as that is it can only offset slightly the consumption from the twin-turbo petrol engines that are offered in straight-six and V8 guises. They both present quite sensational pace, the twin-turbo V8 managing the 0-62mph sprint in a scarcely believable 5.4 seconds, but then its combined consumption figure of 22.6mpg underlines why.
Better then for UK buyers are the diesels. After all, they all come with the same clever chassis hardware that'll ensure the X6 drives with ability that nothing this big and heavy has any right to. Prices start at £41,995 and sales start in May. It might not be politically correct, but it's still difficult not to be impressed by it. |
